The Olympic sailing world came together to salute Santiago Lange upon completing his final Olympic class racing. The Coast Guard ship did a 360 with horns blaring as the fleet lined up the ramp to welcome the legend back to shore. Lange, the three-time medalist, won gold in Rio in 2016 months after recovering from cancer and having a lung removed in the process. His story runs from 1980 through today, and has touched everyone that ever knew him in sailing.

Tita and Banti all but secure gold

Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti (ITA) had the best day on the water of everyone again today, with a 1, 1, 3. The defending gold medalists and defending World Champions have all but secured their second straight world title and fourth overall. They sit 16 points ahead of second place, leaving just a small opening by which they could be passed during the medal race, which runs August 17th.

Gimson and Burnet, the Tokyo silver medalists, are sitting quite securely in second place. “We won’t have much going on in the medal race,” commented Gimson. “We will keep an eye on the teams behind us and the Italians in front, but unless things are going out of the ordinary we’re likely stuck where we are.”
